AIMS Enterprise Management
AIMS, an acronym for ATLIS Information Management System is a suite of applications that provides a solution for organizations that share information across departments or job functions. AIMS builds upon and extends the capabilities of a central data repository by integrating application modules into a comprehensive system. An enterprise thus has the ability to expand, improve and leverage information management requirements without building parallel systems.
ATLIS provided a total solution for Thomas in managing the content, products and processes to publish a 3-volume directory in print, on CD-ROM and on the web.
This ranged from advertising contract administration to collaborative workflow solutions including our first, all digitally-produced edition of a 3000+ page directory.
It really was the total package. ATLIS was extremely responsive to our specific requirements both in their development efforts and as a services provider."

Evolution from a Simple Idea
AIMS began as a relatively simple editorial database application that was used to store and manage data for directories. Essentially it was used as a repository of database derived publications. As customer requirements evolved it became a means of extracting and exporting multiple datasets for a varied assortment of information deliverables ranging from pre-formatted questionnaires to foreign language web sites.
It became apparent to our clients and to us was that the 'editorial' database was the most reliable and comprehensive source of information available in the organization. Increasingly ATLIS was being asked to build or integrate satellite applications or modules to manage the expanding information resources derived from the database.
What has emerged is an enterprise system that is extensible, flexible and easily integrated into the workflow. AIMS provides not only multiple deliverables but workflow management tools that enhance productivity and reliability throughout the enterprise.
Three Tiered Architecture
The system utilizes both client-server (thin client) and remote client capabilities facilitated by the use of a middle tier between the database and the various client applications. A major advantage of this approach is its ability to interact with other systems. This can occur in-house between departments or with vendors and customers on different systems with different database protocols. This flexibility enhances not only the primary editing application but allows for multiple interfaces that can be adjusted and enhanced with ease.
Different departments within an organization often need access to the same information. In a unified repository the likelihood of correct and consistent data is enhanced by the fact that it is entered and valididated at a central location. It also reduces redundant data entry and promotes data currency. This is the core of an enterprise solution because everyone is literally on the same page.
Most of ATLIS's solutions are based on this model. Our applications and our development philosophy center around effective information management. Solutions cited throughout this site are generally based on this approach.
