Digital Asset Management Systems

Companies, especially publishing concerns, often find the need to archive, catalogue and generally manage a large number of graphic elements that are included in publications or electronic products. The generic term Digital Asset Management (DAM) describes a means of storage and retrieval for repurposing of illustrations, advertisements or other digital files that may have residual value.

ATLIS normally includes some form of digital asset management in its content management systems. Typically this includes photographs, charts, maps, archived or current ads, logos and product illustrations. Clients can thus track, retrieve and update within a content repository. DAM systems can import, store and index these assets in such a way that they can be later found, modified, reassembled, and eventually exported.

Range of Approaches

Companies can deploy a digital asset management strategy for a number of uses. These include increased revenues through additional licensing opportunities by repurposing archived materials for resale, enforcing consistent marketing and sales objectives for collateral material, and providing dynamic catalogue content. ATLIS can assist in developing an digital asset management system that fulfills the potential of a comprehensive strategy.

ATLIS can provide solutions in the following areas:

  • Asset Capture and Digitization-includes activities like converting graphics, encoding them, and logging them into the system. These can also include the tools involved in the original creation and editing of the graphics.
  • Asset Management-includes core features, such as storage, indexing, and retrieval, but can also include more sophisticated tools for security and Digital Rights Management (DRM). Storage should be flexible, allowing for the repurposing of assets over time.
  • Asset Distribution-includes appropriate delivery for publishing or electronic delivery. This can be incorporated into the composition stream, included in an electronic product or delivered freefrom via email or ftp.
