GenComp System

Modular Construction

GenComp is a modular suite made up of a data extraction module, a rendering and pagination engine and a controlling interface. All contribute to an efficient and powerful solution for managing the publishing workflow.

The data extraction module builds an XML input file derived from data sources as varied as MS Word documents or SQL databases. Extraction involves the production of a file suitable for rendering in publishable form. This input file forms the basis for processing and rendering by the pagination engine.

Powerful Pagination Engine

At the heart of the GenComp system is a powerful automated pagination engine. This rapid and efficient module can turn raw data into perfectly and professionally paginated directories of over 2,000 pages in a matter of minutes. Large databases or large collections of files can thus be rendered as publishable content from the desktop.

The pagination engine seamlessly integrates variable elements and derived indexes into the rendered content. In fact, virtually any content can be incorporated into the job flow ranging from digital ads to internal links. All elements are incorporated under rule-based programmatic control.

Controlling the Job Flow

The controlling interface is a browser based application that manages the job flow from extraction to pre-press. Variable data such as section headers and footers, starting folios, dates and other variables are controlled through this very user-friendly interface module. This module provides the option to select and manage individual sections or the entire volume. It is designed to turn anyone into a production professional with minimal training.

Key to this approach is a rule-based methodology which enforces publication rules and conventions. Everything from folio styles to postprocessing of PDFs that conform to printer specifications are controlled within the application. Users are guided through the process with a wizard-like interface that minimizes errors and miscues.

Flexible Architecture

GenComp is designed to manage multiple publications with different structures and in some cases output. Publishers have a choice of unlimited page designs for pagination. Since the controlling interface is browser based it can be installed within the enterprise or as a remote application connected to a web server.
